the Center for Social Concerns and the Higgins Labor Studies Program at
the University of Notre Dame.
public is invited to honor and celebrate “International Human Rights
Day” on Thursday, December 10. This annual event marks the anniversary
of the signing in 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a
globally accepted set of principles regarding human rights. Each
year, Jobs with Justice works with local community leaders to honor
this event. Because –this year especially– it is essential that our
community come together to realize the goal of meeting all of our
residents’ basic human needs and rights, the organizers focus on the
Declaration’s Article 25, which states:
has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and
well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing,
housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right
to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability,
widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond
his control….Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and
assistance….”
A
panel of health care experts and community leaders will speak about the
right to health care and efforts to protect this right. Professor Kevin

Heritage Center, will report on upcoming plans for the Center and on
